Our Privacy Philosophy

Zynq is designed around a fundamental principle: caring shouldn't mean surveillance. We built privacy into the core architecture, not as an afterthought.

• Silence, not tracking: We detect the absence of activity, not your movements or behavior.
• Consent-first: Receivers explicitly opt in. No one can be monitored without agreeing.
• Short retention: Activity events are deleted after 24-48 hours. No long-term history.
• No health inference: We don't analyze patterns to make health predictions. Zynq is not a medical device.

What Information Zynq Collects

Account Information

• Email address (for sign-in and account recovery)
• Display name (optional, shown to space members)
• Password (encrypted, never stored in plain text)
• Authentication tokens (if you use Google or Apple Sign-In)

Activity Signals (Receivers Only)

If you opt in as a receiver, we record simple activity signals:

• App opens: When you open the Zynq app
• Check-in taps: When you tap a check-in notification
• "I'm Good" taps: When you press the reassurance button
• Nudge responses: When you respond to a caregiver's nudge

Retention: Activity signals are automatically deleted after 24-48 hours. We do not build long-term behavioral profiles.

Location Data (Premium Only, Optional)

Location is never collected automatically. Premium users can optionally enable location sharing:

• Location is captured only when you press "I'm Good" or trigger a manual alert
• You must explicitly enable this feature in settings
• We never track location in the background
• Free plan users have no location features at all

Spaces (Shared Groups)

If you create or join Spaces:

• Space names (e.g., "Mom's Circle", "Neighbor Check-ins")
• Email addresses of members you invite
• Member roles (caregiver, receiver, or both)
• Receiver settings (silence window, threshold, pause status)

Technical and Usage Data

• Device information (phone model, OS version)
• App version
• Crash reports and error logs (to fix bugs)
• Which features you use (not your activity details)
• Push notification delivery status

What Zynq Does NOT Collect

This is important. Zynq is fundamentally different from surveillance or tracking apps:

Background location: We never track where you are in the background. Ever.
Other app usage: We don't monitor which apps you use or how often.
Motion or step data: We don't use your phone's accelerometer or health sensors.
Screen time: We don't track how much you use your phone.
Health data: We don't access HealthKit, Google Fit, or any health information.
Contacts: We never access your phone's contact list.
Messages or calls: We have no access to your communications.
Behavioral patterns: We don't analyze your habits or routines beyond simple silence detection.

How We Use Your Zynq Data

We use your data solely to provide Zynq's features:

• Detect silence periods and send nudges when appropriate
• Notify caregivers when escalation is needed
• Send check-in reminder notifications
• Deliver reassurance notifications to caregivers
• Display activity timeline for Premium users
• Manage Space memberships and permissions
• Fix bugs and improve app performance

We do NOT: Sell your data, use it for advertising, share it with third parties for marketing, or make health inferences.

Data Retention

Activity Events: 24-48 Hours

Activity signals (app opens, check-in taps, "I'm Good" presses) are automatically deleted after 24-48 hours. This is enough time for the activity timeline feature while ensuring we don't build long-term profiles.

Account Data: Until Deletion

Your account information and Space memberships are retained until you delete your account. You can delete your account at any time.

Alert History: 30 Days

Records of alerts (nudges sent, caregiver notifications) are retained for 30 days, then automatically deleted.

How We Protect Your Data

Cloud Storage

Your data is stored securely on Back4App (Parse Server) with enterprise-grade encryption (AES-256 at rest, TLS in transit).

Local Device Storage

For offline functionality, Zynq caches minimal data on your device using secure encrypted storage. Data syncs when you're back online.

Space Isolation

Each Space is isolated. Members of one Space cannot see data from another Space, even if they share the same receiver.

Your Privacy Rights

Pause or Stop Monitoring

Receivers can pause check-ins at any time (1 hour, today, this week, or indefinitely) or opt out of being a receiver entirely. You're always in control.

Export Your Data

Go to Settings → Privacy → Export Data to download all your Zynq data.

Delete Your Account

Two ways to delete all your Zynq data:

• In Zynq: Settings → Account → Delete Account

All your data is permanently deleted within 30 days. Learn more

Manage Notifications

Control check-in reminders and push notifications at Settings → Notifications.

Optional authentication methods. We receive only your email and name.

Important Disclaimer

Zynq is not a medical device. It does not monitor health, detect emergencies, or provide medical alerts.

Zynq is a simple communication tool that helps people stay connected. Silence detection is probabilistic—it may not catch every situation. For medical monitoring, fall detection, or emergency response, please consult appropriate healthcare providers and emergency services.

Children's Privacy

Zynq is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us at hello@zovia.studio and we'll delete it immediately.
