Zuzzle Privacy Policy

Effective Date: January 1, 2025

This privacy policy applies specifically to Zuzzle, our spatial word puzzle game.

Zuzzle is part of the Zovia Studio family of apps. This privacy policy describes data collection specific to Zuzzle. For our complete privacy practices across all Zovia apps, see our main Privacy Policy.

What Information Zuzzle Collects

Account Information

  • Email address (for sign-in, account recovery, and one-time passcodes)
  • Display name (optional, only visible to you in your profile)
  • Authentication tokens (if you use Google or Apple Sign-In)

Note: Zuzzle uses passwordless authentication. We never store passwords. You sign in with email + one-time passcode, Google, or Apple.

Your Game Data

Your progress and performance in Zuzzle:

  • Puzzle progress: Which puzzles you've completed, current level, era unlocked, stars earned
  • Scores and times: Your performance on each puzzle (completion time, moves taken)
  • Game preferences: Settings like sound, music, haptic feedback
  • Daily challenge completions: Your daily puzzle history and streaks
  • Session data: In-progress puzzles saved locally for offline play

Technical and Usage Data

  • Device information (phone model, OS version)
  • App version
  • Crash reports and error logs (to fix bugs)
  • Anonymous game analytics (which puzzles are most difficult, completion rates) — You can turn this off in Privacy & Data settings
  • Performance metrics (frame rate, load times)

Device Identifier (for App Functionality Only)

Zuzzle generates a unique device identifier to enable core app features. This is NOT used for advertising or cross-app tracking.

  • What it is: A hashed identifier created from your device's vendor ID (identifierForVendor), NOT your advertising ID (IDFA)
  • Why we collect it: To send you push notifications for daily challenges and to manage your game sessions across multiple devices
  • How it's used: Stored securely to register your device for notifications via Firebase Cloud Messaging. Resets when you uninstall Zuzzle.
  • NOT used for: Advertising, user tracking across apps, or third-party data sharing

App Tracking Transparency: This device identifier is NOT used for tracking as defined by Apple. Apple defines tracking as "linking data collected from your app with third-party data for advertising purposes, or sharing the collected data with a data broker." Zuzzle does neither of these activities.

In-App Purchase History

If you make purchases in Zuzzle (hint packs or full game unlock), we store purchase records to provide those features.

  • What we store: Product ID (e.g., "hint pack"), Apple transaction ID, purchase date, and purchase status
  • Why we collect it: To verify your purchases, restore them on new devices, and track your hint balance
  • How it's used: Stored securely on Back4App to unlock premium content and manage consumable hint packs
  • NOT used for: Advertising, user profiling, or sharing with third parties for marketing

App Tracking Transparency: Purchase history is NOT used for tracking as defined by Apple. Your purchase data stays within Zuzzle to provide the features you paid for—it is never linked with third-party data for advertising or shared with data brokers.

What Zuzzle Does NOT Collect

Zuzzle is a game—we only collect game-related data. We do NOT collect:

  • Passwords: Zuzzle uses passwordless authentication. We never ask for or store passwords.
  • Personal content: Zuzzle has no photos, notes, calendar events, or inventory. It's just puzzle data.
  • Your location: We don't track where you are.
  • AI data: Zuzzle has no AI features that process personal data.
  • Contacts: We never access your phone's contact list.
  • Camera or microphone: Zuzzle doesn't need access to your camera or mic.
  • Advertising IDs (IDFA): We never access or use your device's advertising identifier. Zuzzle uses identifierForVendor only for functional purposes like notifications—not for advertising or tracking.

How We Use Your Zuzzle Data

We use your data solely to provide Zuzzle's features:

  • Save and sync your game progress across devices
  • Track your stars and unlock new content
  • Enable offline play (local device storage)
  • Provide daily challenges and track streaks
  • Balance puzzle difficulty based on aggregate player data (if analytics enabled)
  • Fix bugs and improve game performance
  • Provide customer support when you contact us

We do NOT: Sell your data, use it for advertising, or share it with third parties for marketing.

How We Protect Your Data

Cloud Storage

Your game progress is stored securely on Back4App (Parse Server) with enterprise-grade encryption (AES-256 at rest, TLS in transit).

Local Device Storage

For offline play, Zuzzle caches your progress on your device using secure encrypted storage (Hive). Progress syncs when you're back online.

Game-Only Data

Zuzzle only stores game data—no personal content, no photos, no sensitive information. Just your puzzle progress and scores.

Third-Party Services Zuzzle Uses

Zuzzle uses minimal third-party services:

Back4App (Parse Server)

Cloud database hosting for game progress. Privacy Policy

Firebase (Google)

We use Firebase for:

  • Cloud Messaging: Push notifications for daily challenges
  • Firebase Analytics: Anonymous game usage analytics (which puzzles are played, completion rates). You can turn this off in Privacy & Data settings. NOT used for advertising or cross-app tracking.
  • Firebase Storage: Downloading premium puzzle content after full game purchase

Firebase Privacy Policy

Google Sign-In / Apple Sign-In

Optional authentication methods. We receive only your email and name (if you grant permission). These are secure, passwordless ways to sign in.

Important: Zuzzle does NOT use your data for advertising, cross-app tracking, or AI training. We do NOT share your data with data brokers or use advertising IDs (IDFA).

App Tracking Transparency

Zuzzle Does Not Track You

Apple defines "tracking" as:

"Linking data collected from your app with third-party data for advertising purposes, or sharing the collected data with a data broker."

Zuzzle does not track you. We do not:

  • Link your data with third-party data for advertising
  • Share your data with data brokers
  • Use your device's advertising identifier (IDFA)
  • Display third-party advertisements in the app
  • Sell your data to anyone

Because Zuzzle does not track you, we do not request App Tracking Transparency permission. The device identifier and purchase history we collect are used solely to provide Zuzzle's features—notifications, session management, and purchase restoration—not for tracking.

Children's Privacy

Zuzzle is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us at hello@zovia.studio and we'll delete it immediately.
