What Information Zupply Collects

Account Information

• Email address (for sign-in and account recovery)
• Display name (optional)
• One-time passcode (OTP) sent to your email for authentication

Your Shopping List Data

The items and lists you create in Zupply:

• List items: Item names, quantities, categories, completion status
• Purchase history: Which items you've bought and when (derived from your actions)
• Cycle data: How often you purchase items (calculated automatically)
• Preferences: Your store preferences and category preferences

Receipt Scanning & OCR Data

When you scan receipts to teach Zupply about your purchases:

• Receipt images: Temporarily processed for OCR, then discarded. We do NOT permanently store receipt images.
• Extracted text: The raw text extracted from receipts (item names, prices)
• Matched items: How receipt line items map to your grocery list items
• Prices: Item prices extracted from receipts to build your price intelligence
• Store information: Which store the receipt is from (detected from receipt header)

OCR & AI Processing: Receipt images are sent to Google Cloud Vision for text extraction, then the extracted text is sent to Google Gemini AI for intelligent parsing. No images are sent to Gemini — only text. All processing happens server-side through our secure cloud functions.

Store Intelligence Data

To power Store Mode and smart recommendations:

• Store visits: Which stores you shop at (detected via location when you open the app at a store)
• Store profiles: What categories each store is strong in (based on your receipts)
• Price profiles: Typical prices at each store (from your scanned receipts only)
• Item availability: Which items you've successfully purchased at each store

Important: Zupply only checks your location when you open the app to detect Store Mode. We do NOT track your location in the background.

Shared Lists (Household Sync - Gold Tier)

If you share your grocery list with family members (Gold tier):

• Email addresses of household members you invite
• Shared list items and who added/completed them
• Household name and member permissions

Technical and Usage Data

• Device information (phone model, OS version)
• App version
• Crash reports and error logs (to fix bugs)
• Which features you use (not your item details)
• OCR credit usage (how many scans you've used)

What Zupply Does NOT Collect

Background location: Zupply does NOT track your location continuously. We only check location when you open the app to enable Store Mode.
Receipt images: Images are processed for text extraction only and are NOT permanently stored. We discard images after OCR processing.
Payment information: Your credit card or payment details are never seen or stored by Zupply. All payments go through Apple/Google.
Bank or financial data: We don't access your bank accounts, credit cards, or any financial services.
Contacts: We never access your phone's contact list.
Advertising Attribution: We use Meta/Facebook SDK for install attribution only. Your device's advertising ID may be shared with Meta to measure app install campaigns. No behavioral data is shared for advertising purposes.

How We Use Your Zupply Data

We use your data solely to provide Zupply's features:

• Store and sync your shopping lists across devices
• Learn your purchase patterns to provide cycle predictions
• Build store intelligence to power Store Mode sorting
• Extract and match items from scanned receipts
• Track price trends to show you insights
• Provide smart suggestions based on your history
• Enable offline access (local device storage)
• Fix bugs and improve app performance

We do NOT: Sell your data, use it for advertising, share it with retailers, or share it with third parties for marketing.

OCR and AI Processing

How Receipt Scanning Works

1. You take a photo of your receipt in the app.
2. Image is sent securely to Google Cloud Vision for OCR text extraction.
3. Extracted text is sent to Google Gemini AI for intelligent parsing — identifying line items, prices, discounts, and store information. No images are sent to Gemini, only the text from step 2.
4. Items are matched to our Global Grocery Item Master (GGIM) catalog.
5. Original image is discarded. Only structured data (items, prices) is stored.

Fair Credit System

OCR credits are only deducted when a scan successfully extracts readable text. If the scan fails or produces unreadable results, no credit is used and you can retry.

Third-Party Services

• Google Cloud Vision: Processes receipt images for text extraction. Google processes the image to extract text only and does not retain your images. Privacy Policy
• Google Gemini AI: Parses the extracted receipt text to intelligently identify line items, prices, discounts, and store details. Only text is sent to Gemini — never receipt images. All processing happens server-side through our cloud functions. Terms of Service
• Google Places API: Sends your current GPS coordinates to identify nearby grocery stores when you use Store Mode. Location is only sent when you actively use Store Mode. Privacy Policy

How We Protect Your Data

Local-First Architecture

Zupply is designed to be local-first. Your shopping list, store intelligence, and purchase history are primarily stored on your device. This means the app works offline and your data stays private.

Cloud Backup

For sync across devices and backup, data is stored securely on Back4App (Parse Server) with enterprise-grade encryption (AES-256 at rest, TLS in transit).

No Receipt Image Storage

Receipt images are processed transiently and never permanently stored. Only the structured data (item names, prices, store name) is retained.

Your Privacy Rights

Export Your Data

Go to Settings → Data Export to download all your Zupply data including your shopping lists, purchase history, and store intelligence as JSON or CSV.

Delete Your Account

Two ways to delete all your Zupply data:

• In Zupply: Settings → Account → Delete Account
• Email us: hello@zovia.studio

Deletion removes: shopping lists, purchase history, store intelligence, receipt data, and all account information.

Location Permissions

Zupply requests "When In Use" location permission for Store Mode detection. You can revoke this at any time in your device settings. Zupply will work normally without location - Store Mode simply won't activate automatically.

Camera Permissions

Camera access is only requested when you tap "Scan Receipt." You can revoke this permission anytime. Without camera access, you can still use all features except receipt scanning.
