Coming Up Privacy Policy

Effective Date: January 1, 2025

This privacy policy applies specifically to Coming Up, our household continuity app for tracking bills, renewals, and important deadlines.

Coming Up is part of the Zovia Studio family of apps. This privacy policy describes data collection specific to Coming Up. For our complete privacy practices across all Zovia apps, see our main Privacy Policy.

What Information Coming Up Collects

Account Information

  • Email address (for sign-in and account recovery)
  • Display name (optional)
  • Password (encrypted, never stored in plain text)
  • Authentication tokens (if you use Google or Apple Sign-In)

Your Household Items

The bills, renewals, and responsibilities you track in Coming Up:

  • Item names: What you're tracking (e.g., "Electric Bill", "Car Registration")
  • Due dates: When items are due
  • Amounts: Payment amounts (optional)
  • Recurrence patterns: How often items repeat (monthly, yearly, etc.)
  • Payment websites: URLs you save for quick access
  • Notes: Any notes you add to items
  • History: When items were paid, snoozed, or updated

Encrypted Document Storage

Coming Up allows you to store reference copies of important documents:

  • Document files: Photos and PDFs you upload (insurance cards, bills, policies, etc.)
  • Document metadata: File names, categories, and which items they're linked to

Important: All documents are encrypted on your device using AES-256-GCM before being uploaded. Our servers only store encrypted ciphertext. We cannot read your documents. Decryption requires your device and biometric authentication (FaceID/fingerprint).

AI Capture (OCR) Features

When you use the smart capture feature to scan bills and documents:

  • Google Cloud Vision: Your photo is sent to Google Vision API to extract text. Google processes the image but does not store it.
  • Google Gemini AI: Extracted text is sent to Gemini to identify fields like due date, amount, provider, and recurrence pattern.
  • Scan count: We track how many OCR scans you use to manage free tier limits (5 scans) vs. Premium (unlimited).

Note: OCR processing is optional. You can always add items manually without scanning.

Shared Household Spaces

If you share Coming Up with household members:

  • Space names (e.g., "Our Household")
  • Email addresses of members you invite
  • All members can see shared items, documents, and mark things as paid
  • Document encryption key is shared within the Space (all members can decrypt)

Technical and Usage Data

  • Device information (phone model, OS version)
  • App version
  • Crash reports and error logs (to fix bugs)
  • Which features you use (not your item details)
  • Performance metrics (load times, sync speed)

What Coming Up Does NOT Collect

  • Your plaintext documents: We only store encrypted ciphertext. We cannot read your documents.
  • Bank account information: We never ask for or store bank credentials.
  • Social Security Numbers: We don't collect or store SSNs or government IDs.
  • Credit card numbers: Payment processing is handled by Apple/Google. We never see your card.
  • Your location: Coming Up does not track where you are.
  • Contacts: We never access your phone's contact list.

Document Security Architecture

Client-Side Encryption

Documents are encrypted on your device using AES-256-GCM before upload. The encryption key (spaceDocsKey) is generated locally and stored in your device's secure storage. Our servers only receive and store encrypted ciphertext—we mathematically cannot decrypt your files.

Biometric Access Control

To view any document, you must authenticate with FaceID or fingerprint. Without biometric verification, the encryption key remains locked in secure storage and documents cannot be decrypted—even if someone has physical access to your device.

Shared Space Keys

In shared Spaces, all members share the same spaceDocsKey. When you invite someone, the key is securely transferred to their device. This means all household members can decrypt shared documents, but no one outside the Space can.

Reference Copies, Not a Vault

Coming Up stores reference copies of documents—not official legal storage. These are for quick access (insurance cards in your pocket, policy PDFs when you need them). For official legal document storage, we recommend dedicated services.
